SLYDIGS RIDE AGAIN!
Do you remember? Remember the world of magic and wonder, the world of your childhood? Over that horizon anything could happen. Untold glory and the overwhelming beauty of a thousand life times awaited you for the taking. Rainforests of a million unknown species, lost temples of forgotten civilisations, dark oceans of treasure laden shipwrecks, wrecks guarded by mysterious omens and strange spirits. Do you remember the dreams of vast deserts concealing ancient cities, lost beneath the wild winds of time, buried under the deep sands of the centuries? Treasures and adventures, glory and gold!
Raised in the desolate shell of a dead empire, they never forgot these things. In the skeleton of an imperial order destroyed by two epic wars, they were raised. Raised among children of dark, derelict, dreams. But they held their dreams carved in ornate stones of art, knowledge and romance. Forgotten now, lost behind the sheen of the bill boards.
In pillars and turrets that now stand like ghost filled tombs, they never gave up. In towns of deserted towers they nurtured those dreams. In empty streets of broken arched windows they grew strong. Under faded cherub’s faces with cracked broken noses, their glory overcame us. In a world of rotting, slate less churches with weeping gargoyles, I wandered with them in states of chemical uncertainty. In a world of crumbled down public houses, stripped of all brass and glory, we staggered, lost. With bellies full of poisons and veins full of hate, they sang away the pain. Together we dreamed ourselves half mad. In burned out post offices, on carved up train tracks, in concrete filled canals and smashed stained glass stations, we crawled. In a lost world buried beneath vast tarmac parking lots, humongous retail parks and never ending motorways, we were born together. We walked were Pirates and Poets once trod.
Now there will be no quarter given. No gap. No in-between…… For the greed freaks gave us none.
Between shimmering monoliths of capitalism, no room was made for their beauty. Amongst the polystyrene punctured winds, rusting shopping-trolley skeletons, electric fence forests and car-corpse grave yards, nothing was left but business and ugliness. Now we will take all until nothing is left, we over fill our cups with the sins of the flesh. Consume all and give nothing back. Until the seas start to rise and the sky turns black.
The night was cold and rainy when their ships finally broke their chains. Like some sort of raging wild wolves, they had just ripped in to the joint. Tore the flesh down to the bone, with crazed foaming cry’s they smashed the remaining sanity of the party into the forgotten night outside. Exotic and handsome, erratic and relentless, the hours were small and their hearts were large. For they are Slydigs and they will take no prisoners.
They wore velvet overcoats and a couple of Cuban heeled soul’s followed. Grass was on the wind and Sweet Jean was in the air. Wine filled their stomachs and acid filled their heads, excitement in their hearts and love in their beds. For they are young and free and Slydigs will ride to time indefinite.
